The MCMWTC is located on California Highway 108 at Pickel Meadow, 21 miles northwest of Bridgeport, California and 100 miles south of Reno, Nevada. The MWTC is cited at 6,762 feet, with elevations in the training areas ranging to just under 12,000 feet. In an agreement between the U.S. Forest Service and the Marine Corps, the MWTC occupies and is permitted to train on 46,000 acres of the Toiyabe National Forest. While the land remains under management of the U.S. Forest Service, this letter of agreement permits use of the area to train Marines in mountain and cold weather operations. |

WeatherMWTC BASE - Winter [October - April] snow accumulation can reach depths of six to eight feet. Severe storms can deposit as much as four feet of snow in a 12-hour period. Annual temperatures range from -20 degrees to +90 degrees Fahrenheit. BASE HOUSING - Normal snowfall in a 24-hour period averages six to eight inches. Annual snowfall could reach as high as five feet but melts quickly. Road signs are posted by Caltrans when weather conditions require snow chains. TRAVEL - If you are planning to traverse mountain passes, check with Caltrans for road conditions by calling toll free 1-800-427-7623 and entering the Highway number to get updates on current road conditions. |

Go west on East Plumb Lane toward Terminal Way. Maneuver to left lane; merge onto US-395 south headed toward Carson City. Exit 57B toward Virginia City/Carson City/S. Lake Tahoe. Upon exiting look for Exit 43 [US-395 Business/North Carson Street]. Follow south for approximately 60 miles before reaching intersection of US-108 Sonora Pass and US-395. Turn right at this intersection and stay on US-108 for four miles. |

Take US-62 to Yucca Valley. Turn right onto US-247 [Old Woman’s Spring Road]. Merge onto I-15 [ramp is on the left]. Merge onto US-58 toward Bakersfield. Turn right onto US-395 North. Turn left onto US-108 [Sonora Pass]. Main entrance to MWTC is on your right approximately four miles after the turn. |

Follow I-15 north until US-395. Take 395 north. You will go through various towns. The last major town before reaching Bridgeport is Bishop, CA. Continue north on US-395, turn left at US-108 and follow this until you reach the front gate. |
