MCCS Aquatics, Onlsow Beach, and MCB Camp Lejeune Train for Beach Safety

Each year, MCCS Aquatics teams up with Onslow Beach, and MCB Camp Lejeune Fire and Rescue to train a detachment of Marines to ensure the safety of beachgoers at Onslow Beach. The period from Memorial Day to Labor Day is typically a busy time for beach activities, and having well-trained lifeguards is crucial for preventing accidents and responding to emergencies.

The swimmer rescue drill conducted on May 18, 2023, demonstrates the commitment of these Marines to their duties. Performing the drill in rough waters and high winds adds an additional layer of challenge and prepares them to handle adverse conditions during real-life rescue situations. By practicing CPR and evacuation techniques, the detachment is equipped to respond effectively to incidents and provide necessary aid to individuals in need.

It's important to acknowledge the efforts of these Marines and our MCCS staff in ensuring the success of this program each year. Their dedication and training contribute significantly to the safety and well-being of beach visitors.

"MCCS Semper Fit is proud to partner with MCB Camp Lejeune to train the Onslow Beach Lifeguard Detachment each year. Our Aquatics staff spends several months training, drilling, and practicing with these Marines to make sure they are at the highest level of skill and fitness in order to keep our Onslow Beach patrons safe during the busy summer months. We are grateful for the support from MCB in this endeavor." GySgt Cody Kidd, MCCS Semper Fit Recreation Branch Manager.
